Then Grumpy Cat got his own website, was listed as a highlight of SXSW and was on mainstream news. Today grumpy cat got a lawyer, to protect his ‘intellectual property’ and now grumpy cat has been transformed into the equivalent of Mickey Mouse or Ronald McDonald. It is not cute or funny anymore, in part because it was never that cute or funny. It was just a picture of a pissed off looking cat that provided a momentary distraction. That is how you kill a meme.
