Since the Jetsons people have been waiting for their flying cars, some even claim that they won’t believe the ‘future has arrived’ until they get one. Sure, on the surface, flying cars would save on road maintenance and traffic congestion (until everyone gets one), but a large number of the people who drive on the ground shouldn’t have a license to do so.

In North America alone tens of thousands of people die annually from accidents when they’re not flying through the air. As a frequent pedestrian I’d really not have traffic accidents falling out of the sky. If and when these things are ever commercially available the licensing should be as strict as that for pilots.

This morning is a demonstration of the most obvious problem with flying cars as an experimental one crashed near a school in Vernon BC.
