“Africa is a Country” describes itself, in part, by telling you what it isn’t. “This isn’t another blog about famine, Bono, or Barack Obama.” Africa is a very large and complex place. It is the second largest continent on Earth, after Asia, and roughly 20% larger than North America. It is home to 55 countries and more than a billion people.

In North America though, we tend to see Africa in terms of Stereotypes. We know about famine, starvation and HIV/AIDS. We know about the brutal warlords that Hollywood loves so much. North Americans, for the most part, want to hear news stories that reinforce what we already think. “Africa is a Country” is about what lies beyond the stereotypes.
