You may have noticed that physicists are very, very excited this week. In fact everyone involved in science on any level seems to have a party hat on. However, if you are not a physicist or don’t know much about science, you may be a little hazy on why everyone is so excited and just why gravitational waves are so important.

So long as you have a rudimentary understanding of the nature of the universe and the big bang theory, the video below from Nature should help clear things up a bit.
